Over forty years ago John Adams and Jack Blain had a vision: to supply the British Columbian automotive aftermarket and transportation industries with quality lubricants and related products. In 1961 Adams Distributors was created to fulfill this vision. |
In 1988 M.A. (Mac) Christie joined the team, bringing over thirty years of experience in the petroleum industry to the company which was renamed Christie/Adams Distributors Ltd. Under Mac's leadership the company established a solid reputation for delivering quality products at competitive prices.
In 1998 Ultra Fuels merged with Christie-Adams Distributors Ltd. to form United Petroleum Products Inc. Ultra Fuels, founded by Chuck Husel, was an independent petroleum marketing company which had been serving customers in British Columbia since 1985. From these beginnings, United Petroleum Products Inc. has continued to grow and their agents and distributors have developed a reputation for delivering a variety of quality lubricant and petroleum products to meet the needs of a diversified customer base. |

As the major oil companies started to close their rural bulk plants and consolidate their operation in the large urban centres many customers were left without the personalized service they wanted. This created an opportunity for United Petroleum. United Petroleum developed a business relationship with these people and created a distribution network through out the province, which services independent retailers, First Nation retailers, commercial, and industrial accounts.

In 2007 United Petroleum Products Inc. became part of Parkland Industries LP, whose parent company is Parkland Income Fund. Parkland Income Fund’s units trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the symbol PKI.UN.
Parkland Income Fund currently operates retail and wholesale fuels and convenience store businesses under its Fas Gas Plus, Fas Gas, Race Trac Fuels and Short Stop Food Stores brands and through independent branded dealers, and transports fuel and other products through its Distribution division. With approximately 585 locations, Parkland has developed a strong market niche in Canadian non-urban markets focused in the West. The Fund supplies propane, bulk fuel, heating oil, lubricants, industrial fluids, agricultural inputs and associated services to commercial and industrial customers in Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon Territory under the Neufeld, United Petroleum and Great Northern Oil brands.
Additionally, Parkland operates the Bowden refinery near Red Deer, Alberta as a storage and contract-processing site. The Fund is also a 25 percent joint venture partner in a study, due to be completed by the end of 2008, to determine the feasibility of building a $300 million facility to refine condensate into petroleum and other products.
Parkland is focused on creating and delivering value for its unitholders through the continuous refinement of its site portfolio, increasing revenue diversification through growth in non-fuel revenues and active supply chain management.
UPPI has grown through a focus on exceptional customer service. This philosophy is echoed by Parkland Industries and we are excited about the synergy this promises between the two companies. We look forward to continuing to develop this focus as we serve our customers in the future.
